The School Social Work Program consists of over 20 licensed professionals providing services to children, families, and school staff in 27 Indianapolis metro area Catholic schools. Program staff support students with overcoming challenges and aid in linking home, school, and community to build a foundation for success. The school social worker is part of a team, working with school staff, parents, and students to promote academic success, emotional well-being, and positive personal relationships. A variety of services, including individual and small group counseling, consultation and referral services, crisis intervention and classroom education programs, are offered to address areas of concern such as self-esteem, coping skills, stress management skills, peer interactions, anger management, grief/loss, and social skills. School social workers’ training includes specialized preparation in cultural diversity, strengths-based practice, risk assessment and intervention, and clinical intervention strategies to address the mental health needs of students.Â
