Description of the Crisis Office program:
Assistance is given by linking clients with existing community resources and by providing direct assistance where gaps occur.
Direct services include access to our own food pantry and clothing room. Also available to clients are bus tickets, vouchers for gas, food, and clothing.
Limited financial assistance is provided for rent and utilities. Financial assistance is usually limited to the last $25.00 needed to prevent an eviction or disconnect.
The program targets low-income persons with no income, 18 years or older, who need short-term assistance to maintain the basic needs not being met by government programs.
Volunteer Needs:
The Crisis Office is staffed by trained volunteers who interview clients to determine their needs. Volunteers are also used to coordinate the food pantry and clothing room.
Training videos and material from the Information and Referral Network, Inc. are utilized to train volunteers as intake workers. Specialized orientation for the Crisis Office and Catholic Charities Indianapolis is also utilized. A minimum of one year commitment of one day per week and attendance once a month at an in-services meeting is required.
