What is A Caring Place? A Caring Place (ACP) is a daytime program of Catholic Charities Indianapolis. We offer therapeutic recreation and socialization for adults, 50 years of age and older, with physical and cognitive impairments and emphasize the uniqueness of each individual.
Where is ACP located? We are located in Fairview Presbyterian Church, 4609 N Capitol Ave., Indianapolis, IN, 46208.
What are your hours of operation? We are open 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
Is there a cost? The cost for attendance is $75 for a full day and $50 for a half day. There is an additional fee for our transportation. Financial assistance is available as well as funding through Medicaid Waiver, CHOICE and Veteran’s Administration.
Do you offer transportation? Yes, we offer limited transportation.
What is Person-Centered Care (PCC)? PCC is an approach to care which we have utilized here at ACP for years. We respect the uniqueness of the individual and build a relationship based on trust, recognition and respect. We promote independence, personal worth, self-confidence and hope.
How do you build upon the uniqueness of the individual? One way we build upon the uniqueness of the individual is to complete a Life Story Book for each participant. We consider their life history, “their story,” an essential part of them and is necessary to know and understand to build a trusting relationship while addressing their personal worth.
What is a typical day like? We usually provide a light snack and socialization in the mornings. Mid-morning includes daily orientation, current events, armchair exercises and inspirational moments. Lunch is served starting at noon with free time afterwards. In the afternoon you can find our participants enjoying golf, bowling, balloon volleyball, art (paint and water colors) and music therapies, crafts, bingo, trivia, bunco and OGNIB, live entertainment and many other active games. We go outside in the afternoon when the weather permits. Once in a while we have a trip to a museum on the schedule.
Do you offer Caregiver Support? Yes. The Catholic Charities Indianapolis Caregiver Support Program not only offers support groups, but also offers minor home modifications, massage therapy and assistance in identifying local and national resources. Any family caregiver of an older adult, whether you use A Caring Place Adult Day Services or not, is welcome. Contact Monica Woodsworth at 317-261-3378 for more information.
